On a blustery April afternoon, the official groundbreaking was held for the new Hamilton High School Athletic Complex. Superintendent Tom Korst led the high school administrators, including Principal Dan Kimsey, in actually pushing shovels into the area where the new all-weather track and football field will emerge during the summer.

Other dignitaries, including the Hamilton School Board, posed for photos in front of some of the heavy equipment of Jackson Contractor Group of Missoula. Korst also invited some of the high school athletes to participate in the ceremonial groundbreaking.

Korst said he was hopeful for the field to be completed by the fall, but with the unpredictable weather the valley has been experiencing, he thought that it was entirely possible that a few more football games might be played on Haynes Field, on the southwest edge of Hamilton.

School officials are now looking at finalizing plans for the major remodel of Daly Elementary School. Both projects were approved in last year's bond election.
