Hamilton is hosting two American Legion baseball tournaments this month. In order to get ready for the statewide crowds, the classic wooden grandstands at Vester Wilson Field received some "Tender Loving Care" from volunteers this week. Hamilton Mayor Dominic Farrenkopf and Post 47 Commander Ruth Bizarro-Cook decided to make some overdue repairs and improvements to the area, next to the Safeway parking lot at US 93 and Main. The field is the home of the Bitterroot Red Sox.

With the help of Shrock Construction and Donaldson Brothers Ready Mix, the City of Hamilton smoothed out and expanded the parking area next to the railroad tracks, with the permission of Montana Rail Link. Meanwhile volunteers from the Red Sox families and others were busy. The grandstands were cleaned and painted, safety screens were repaired, a handrail was added, the bathroom and the field sprinkler system were repaired, burned out field lights were replaced and the area was generally cleaned up.

This weekend, the Western Class B baseball tournament for 14-16 year-olds will happen at the field. Next weekend, the Western District Class A tournament with the Bitterroot Red Sox will be playing ball at the field. Good luck to all the teams!
