David Letterman Announces His Retirement [VIDEO]

'Late Show' host David Letterman shocked fans when he announced his retirement during his opening monologue on tonight's taped episode of the 'Late Show With David Letterman.'

Earlier today, the 67-year-old icon had a conversation with the president of CBS, Les Moonves, and told him he will retire, he announced to the stunned studio audience.

"I just want to reiterate my thanks for the support from the network, all of the people who have worked here, all of the people in the theater, all the people on the staff, everybody at home, thank you very much," Letterman said.

"And what this means now, is that Paul [Schaffer] and I can be married," he joked, referring to his longtime bandleader, who was also taken aback by the announcement and even asked if he had a minute to call his accountant.

Letterman, a late night legend, has been the host of 'Late Show' since 1993 and plans to retire in 2015.
