Beloved Missoula Actress Lands Role In New Martin Scorsese Movie
As an actor, there's gotta be very few things cooler than being able to say, "I was in a Martin Scorsese movie." Over the course of nearly 60 years, Scorsese has directed all-time classics like Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, The King of Comedy, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas, and continues to deliver all-time greats like The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Irishman. (He's also got a million movies that are great and aren't as widely-seen - I'm a huge After Hours fan right here - but we don't have time to get into that right now).
He's such a beloved figure in the film community, and any time he's working on a new project, I'm always paying attention. For the last few years, he's been talking about developing a movie based on the book Killers Of The Flower Moon, starring frequent Scorsese collaborators Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. And now, you can add another name to that cast list - and it's one with a local connection.
Lily Gladstone, who was born in Kalispell and raised on the Blackfeet reservation, has joined the cast of Killers of the Flower Moon, where she'll play the role of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage Nation community member married to the nephew of a powerful rancher. I've been a fan of Gladstone for a while, even before I discovered her connection to Montana - she was incredible in Kelly Reichardt's Certain Women in a role which definitely got her noticed in the independent film world. She's been in a few things since, but this is easily her biggest project to date
Gladstone also has a connection to Missoula - she graduated from the University of Montana in 2004 (according to Wikipedia), and even worked at The Roxy Theater for a while before breaking into acting! So when will we see Killers of the Flower Moon? We don't have a date on that yet, but the plan is to start shooting within the next few weeks, and when it does come out, the movie will be released both in theaters and streaming on Apple TV+.
