Possibly dozens of pelicans have been shot and killed on the Bighorn River below Yellowtail Dam in eastern Montana. Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the shooting. Pelicans are a federally protected migratory bird in Montana.

FWP wardens recently have seen nearly a dozen dead pelicans and have recovered some of the birds. The investigation area is between Yellowtail Dam and Two Leggins Fishing Access Site. The wardens think that even more of the large birds were shot during the summer. Anyone with information about the shootings should call the 1-800-TIP-MONT toll free. Or you can call game warden Jake Barzen at (406) 860-7796.
